Bisi bele bath recipe
It is a traditional, flavourful rice and lentil-based dish from Karnataka or Kannada cuisine. It is basically an extended version of the masala khichdi recipe with additional flavoured spices and vegetables.
Now you are thinking what is it right? 🤔 I am talking about famous karnataka dish Bisi bele bath.The word bisi bēle bhāt literally means hot lentil rice mixture in Kannada language. it is perhaps one of the most common rice-based lunch box recipes prepared in almost every household in South India. generally, it is either prepared for breakfast or lunch or even a tiffin box, but it can also be prepared for dinner with a choice of vegetable raita.
There is varient versions of this recipe.This is one among them..
You can also prepare the spice powder or bisibelabath masala in advance and add it accordingly when you prepare bisi bele bath recipe. First you have to cook the rice and lentil in a pressure cooker and then mix it with veggies and spice powder(business bele bath powder)followed by simmering till it cooks perfectly.
serve bisibele bath with fresh spicy boondi pearls topped on it for your early morning breakfast or lunch or dinner. you may also use khara mixture or Bombay mixture as an alternative to khara boondi.
INGREDIENTS:
Serves : 6-7
1 cup = 250ml
bisi bele bath masala
• 1tbsp coriander seeds
• 1tsp chana dal
• 1 tsp urad dal
• 2 inch cinnamon
• 4 cloves
• 1 tsp oil
• 4 kashmiri red chilli
• 7-8 Garlic pods
• 2 bay leaves
• 1 gooseberry size tamarind
• 2 tsp chopped ginger
• 1 cup coconut
for pressure cooking:
• ½ cup washed toor dal
• 1 cup soaked green peas and channa
• 2 cup water
for bisi bele bath:
• 2 tbsp oil
• 5 spatula Cooked rice
• 1 tsp mustard
• 1tsp urad dal
• 10 cashew
• 1 string curry leaves
• 3 tsp ghee
• ½ onion, cubed
• 1 carrot, chopped
• 1 potato, cubed
• 5 beans, chopped
• ½ tsp turmeric
• 1 tsp rock salt
METHOD:
how to make bisi bele bath masala:
• firstly, in a heavy-bottomed pan take1tbsp oil, 1tbsp coriander seeds, 1tsp chana dal, 1tsp urad dal, 2 inch cinnamon,4 clove,1 tsp oil,4 kashmiri red chilli, 7-8 Garlic pods,2 bay leaves.Roast on low flame until the spices turn aromatic.
• transfer to the plate and allow to cool completely.
• once the roasted spices are cooled completely, transfer to the mixer jar.
• add tamarind and grated coconut..
• Grind to fine paste and homemade bisi bele bath masala is ready.
how to make Karnataka style bisibele bath:
• firstly, pressure cook toor dal and green peas. In a same cooker add potato, carrot and beans .cook for 2 whistle.keep it aside.
• in a large kadai heat 2 tbsp oil, splutter 1 tsp mustard, 1 tbsp Urad dal cashews and few curry leaves.
• add ½ onion and saute slightly.
• Now add grounded masala ,turmeric and salt.saute for a minute.
• Then add cooked dal and vegetables, add 1 cup water and mix well boil for 5 minutes
• Then add cooked rice and mix well..add 2 tbdp ghee on top of this masala.
• finally, enjoy bisi bele bath recipe with boondi and rait.
